We are Proud to annouce the 2022 fifty edition of the incredible Iranian Silk Road Ultramarathon (200 km) and Lut Desert Challenge (120 km). ISRU which will take place in early October 2022 within the LUT Iranian Desert, Kerman Area.
After the successful first four edition another unforgettable experience. If you really Want to exceed your limit, do challenge the hottest and fascinating Desert in the world.
Each stage in a unique adventure in a different landscape, running trough the land of one of the most hospitable people that will be part of your stunning environment.
The race is scheduled in two formats:
Iranian Silk Road Ultramarathon 200 km (5 stages, self sufficiency - 30/55 km per day with a long section of 60 km)
Lut Desert Challenge 120 km (5 stages, supported self sufficiency * - 20/25 km per day with a long section of 40 km).
Athletes will have the advantage of being directly transported by jeep to the first checkpoint to run the daily stage.

at the organization before the race
The two races, however, will share the same path, the same tented camps and will have the same time duration.
All participants will carry their backpack (recommended maximum weight of about 10 kg) which will contain clothing, freeze-dried food - minimum 18,000 kcal and mandatory equipment. Athletes will depart from the tented camp in the morning. The camps will be dismantled from the staff on site and reassembled at the end of the stage after the athletes have started the daily stage. Each camp includes: sleeping tents, supplies of hot and cold water, a medical tent (doctors, nurses and medical equipment), a media tent (computer , wireless and satellite phone), 4WD veichles and personnel for transfer and camps assembly/disassembly.
At the end of each stage the athletes will arrive at tented camp that will host them for the night. Athletes of 200 km will run from
8:30 am to 3pm approx, from field to field.
The organization will supply about 10 liters of drinking water, both cold and warm (the latter for prepare food) everyday to person, which will
be distributed both at checkpoints and at base camp. Either during the race or to base camps, runners are not allowed to use the water for washing.
The race will take place in total safety, with medical and nursing staff present at checkpoints about every 10 kilometers path and tented
camps (2/3 jeep with a doctor and nurse on board plus medical supplies). At checkpoints will also feature an assistant who will take the
split time of the runners.
The Race Director and the Camp manager will be connected at all times via radio with the checkpoints and the base camp. All staff
are connected by radio/walkie talkie.
Every 50 meters of race path (every 10 if the view is not clear) will be placed a stake with a reflecting part to mark the path. The course
is designed by the Race Director of the WRA-XRO team, Paolo Barghini.
Each participant will be covered by insurance.
Path/ground: the exact route will be announced two weeks before departure. The soil is various with sand dunes, marshes and rocky stretches.
